» » $32 billion needed for southern transport projects

VNRE - The Ministry of Transport has submitted to the Government for approval of a master plan for transport development in the Southern key economic zone until 2020, with a vision to 2030, at a cost of VND681 trillion (US$32.4 billion).

In the 2011-2020 period, VND326 trillion will be spent on developing the road network, VND168 trillion on the railway system and VND88 trillion on the seaway system.

An average of VND57 billion will be used annually on infrastructure projects that help to prevent traffic jams and link cities and provinces in the region, including Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay, Trung Luong-My Thuan, Ben Luc-Nhon Trach-Long Thanh, and Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressways, which will have four to eight lanes.

Other projects are Bien Hoa-Vung Tau, HCMC-Moc Bai, HCMC-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh and Dau Giay-Da Lat expressways, belt road No.3, belt road No.4, and inter-seaport roads.

According to the ministry, the capital will be mobilized from many sources.
