A local-foreign consortium began work on Wednesday on a 15-story office building as part of a broader property project called Nhon Trach City Center (NTCC) in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Trinh Ngoc Hai, general director of Sunco Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company, said Sunco and its Malaysian partner Sova Holdings Sdn. Bhd. would spend some US$47 million on four blocks of 13-story apartment buildings, sport center, commercial service and two 15-story office buildings for lease and a four-star hotel with 200 rooms.
Hai said the first office building would be finished in two years’ time, and that the next two apartment buildings would get off the ground early next year.
When in place in 2012, the entire project will cover 28,500 square meters in the administrative center of Nhon Trach, some 60 kilometers from HCMC.
The consortium said this development had resulted from a plan to turn Nhon Trach District into a new urban town by 2020 and an economic center.
Tu Ngoc Chieu, chairman of Nhon Trach District, said at the groundbreaking ceremony that NTCC would be the first property complex project in the district and that it would contribute to the development of the district in years to come.
Chieu said the industrial zones in Nhon Trach District had attracted some 330 projects worth some US$6.4 billion and that some 200 companies have put their projects into operation, generating some 50,000 jobs.
Hai of Sunco said Nhon Trach City Center was in turn part of a bigger project covering some 53,000 square meters, in which Sunco will develop villas and town houses.
Sunco is a State-owned company active in import-export and trading services, industrial and civil construction, travel and goods production for export and domestic consumption. Sova Holdings Sdn Bhd is a property development and construction firm.
