VNRE - A ground-breaking ceremony was held in Tu Liem district on September 25 for the first bidding package of the urban railway line from Nhon to Hanoi in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, representatives from the French embassy, and those from relevant ministries and departments.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Dung expressed sincere thanks to the French government for its funding and technological assistance. He said Hanoi’s transport system is now overloaded and can’t meet the urgent demands for social-economic development and this project is very important to the expansion of the capital city.

The Nhon-Hanoi railway line is 12.5km long, including 4km underground. The project has a total capitalisation of EUR783 million, sourced from loans granted by the French government, the European Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank and from Vietnam’s corresponding capital.

There will be 12 stations along the line which is designed for a maximum speed of 80 km per hour and capable of serving over 900 passengers at the same time.

The stations will be connected to bus stops and other urban railway lines and it will be very convenient for passengers to travel the whole length of the line in about 20 minutes.
